Business Coaching Success Stories
South Africa is a country where the entrepreneurial spirit remains strong despite many challenges and business coaching has emerged as an influential instrument for improving business outcomes. The cases of Kaisa Engineering Solutions, Opakilwe Bogolo Trading and Project, P and Twin Enterprise Molefe, Emang Bomme Construction CC, and Chaos Kulture (Pty) Ltd illustrate how significant business coaching is to the dynamic economic landscape of that country. Also not forgetting organisations like OBPI-Incubator which nurture and help small businesses to grow to their full potential.
According to the Human Capital Institute, 51% of companies with a strong coaching culture enjoy higher revenues. Over half of organisations with a strong coaching culture report having higher revenues than peers. A "strong coaching culture” includes 3 types of modalities: external coaches, internal coaches, and managers/leaders using coaching skills.
Here are success stories of SMEs, who got support from business coaching
Success Story 1: Kaisa Engineering Solution
Isabella Pooe and her partner founded Kaisa Engineering Solutions, which is a pioneer in the mining industry. Their technical proficiency was hindered by their operational challenges which threatened to hold back their growth.
Kaisa Engineering went through transformative coaching sessions facilitated by OBPI-Incubator in partnership with the South African Business Hub to define their goals, increase clients’ engagements, and improve marketing strategies. Now the company has a streamlined operation system that ensures regular invoicing. At the moment they are ready for an expansion as it sees a workshop's acquisition.
Success Story 2: Opakilwe Bagolo Trading and Project
Opakilwe Bogolo Trading and Project managed by Kutlwano Mphaile experienced financial issues including failure to source funds that hindered the company’s growth.
The Access to Funding workshop by OBPI-Incubator together with financial refinement assistance, allowed Kutlwano Mphaile to enter into a contract with one of the major mining companies and secure funding for projects currently being implemented. Today, Kutlwano is best known as a successful entrepreneur because Opakilwe Bogolo expanded into other sectors that have created jobs for underprivileged youths.
Success Story 3: P and Twin Enterprise Molefe
Thabiso Molefe’s journey from having a difficult childhood to entrepreneurship is proof of resilience. Together with his brother, they launched P and Twin Enterprise Molefe which specialises in offering office and plant cleaning services, However, they experienced a hard time dealing with the pressures of running the company alone.
The OBPI incubator imparted skills in its employee relations, marketing distribution channels, and branding. The company landed a big deal with a local mine by participating in the MTE Expo as well as networking events. A Vacuum Truck acquisition plan implies that P and Twin Enterprise will create more job opportunities in society.
Success Story 4: Emang Bomme Construction
Emang Bomme Construction which translates as (Stand up Women) was founded by Monica Maleka to empower women in construction. However, her early progress was held back due to financial management issues and irregular invoicing.
Intervention made by the OBPI-Incubator covered business coaching, branding activities, and networking possibilities. As such, it increased the customer base, improved credibility, and ensured completion of Management Accounts towards positioning for future funding opportunities. The journey taken by Monica shows that women can shine in all sectors if they get proper support.
Success Story 5: Chaos Kulture
Jeffrey Petlele is the founder of Chaos Kulture, an online design company that fills the gap in the market for creative digital designs. Jeffrey soon realised that delivering good designs was not enough despite its initial success.
This marked a turning point when they became a member of the OBPI-Incubator program. A series of interventions such as LinkedIn marketing training and networking with other entrepreneurs have resulted in steady revenue growth. In today’s business, Chaos Kulture is on top of an upward trend aimed at extending its customer base beyond economic growth expectations.
The transformational potential of business coaching in South Africa is exemplified by the achievements of P and Twin Enterprise Molefe, Emang Bomme Construction CC, Chaos Kulture (Pty) Ltd., Opakilwe Bogolo Trading and Project, and Kaisa Engineering Solutions. Targeted interventions and strategic guidance from these organisations have helped overcome challenges, achieve growth, and open up avenues within their communities.
As entrepreneurship drives economic development in South Africa, business coaching will increasingly become indispensable to foster more success stories that propel national prosperity.
